Final Major Project (What Is Autism)

For my Final Major Project I decided to explore the characteristics of the Autistic Spectrum. Being on the spectrum myself I saw it as a good opportunity to understand how my mind works and educate people who also didn't know how autistic people see the world.

In terms of a graphic design style I was encouraged to experiment and take risks. I feel that I have with a combination of unique photography and type manipulation in an attempt to put a viewer in the shoes of someone on the autistic spectrum.

As well as the photography and the type I also used a variety of techniques for the format of the book. These include Embossing, Laser Cutting and Sew Binding, these techniques gave my book a more sensual feel to it.

Degree Show Poster

The Degree Show poster was a very open brief. This gave me the freedom to experiment with different techniques I hadn't used previously. I decided to combine hand drawn typography with a dirty graphics style (2 techniques I was pretty new to) I found the work of Thomas Shostok very inspiring and decided to draw my typography in a similar way.

D&AD (Crisis Brief)

This is a piece of work that I submitted for D&AD competition. The brief I decided to undertake was for the charity Crisis, this required me to produce an innovative piece of direct mail which raises awareness of homelessness and the work that Crisis does.
I decided to use the Where's Wally puzzle books as a metaphor for a homeless person being just another face in a proverbial crowd of people. I then decided to trick a potential viewer by stating the fact that over 10,000 people become homeless.

RSA (Alternative Energy Stamps)

This is a piece of work I produced for RSA competition. The brief I chose involved creating a unique range of postage stamps promoting renewable energy sources.

I decided to create imagery that represented each renewable energy source out of dots, I think it has somewhat of a scientific look to it and it allowed a viewer to see the image clearly even at the actual size of a postage stamp.

Ikea Poster

This unit was a 3 week project where I had to design a poster for the new Ikea Store opening in Southampton. The brief was a competition where the wining poster design would be displayed in the store. Even though my poster design wasn't the winning one I was still happy with what I came up with.

Independent Project (Creating a Typeface)

During my 2nd year of uni, one of my unit's was to find an existing brief and use that as a basis. The brief I chose was a D&AD Brief which required me to create a typeface. In addition to creating the typeface I also designed a series of Posters to help promote the typeface.
